Fallen Christian Soldier

I am a prisoner of war
I was a soldier
But now I’m chained

My downfall was of my doing
I was on guard
But I grew tired
And my watch began to slacken
Instead of going to my Captain
I slept

I thought I saw them come
But I told myself I was only dreaming
But now I am here
And I realize I was already their prisoner
When I slept

The Wondrous Night

The night I’ve longed for has come
The endless day is finally done
What sweet peace awaits
When the horizon, the moon breaks
Venus, beauty bright, shows her majesty
And with gladness I say goodbye to day’s sobriety.
What magic and wonderment to behold
What joys and dreams are left untold
The poor souls who wander throughout the day
Who know little, if any, of the moon’s silver rays
I cry out to them, “Embrace the enchantment of the night!”
For only in the quiet of the night do our true selves come to light
To forsake the light of day and dance to the music of the moon
Holds more wonders and joys than under the garish light of noon.
People may think I’m wild and uncouth, uncivilized and unlearned
But they are the ones who are unlearned, they know only the day’s burden.
Freedom rings in the dark hollows of the night, listen to her sing!
Let fall the bars of the imagination and let fly the fanciful dream.

The Sorrow of Eowyn

She watches him crumble night and day by the tongue of the vile bard
Her mother’s brother, her father’s king reduced to a dotard
Her uncle’s son no more, her mother’s son cast out, and now she stands alone
Behind the throne, her uncle’s crutch, a smile on her lips no more
Sickened by the desire of the worm; he haunts her steps through the halls
Her beauty now she curses; when the worm comes to call
The House of Eorl, reduced to not; to her people, she has no hope to bring
Like a caged beast, a wild thing forced to serve her doddering king
'There is no hope or end in sight', so she said in the deep of the night
But still she does not blanch; she holds her head high, in a place where there is no light.

Under the Shade of Night

Under the shade of night
Thoughts and dreams take flight
Over the world and under the sea
We cleave to this tranquility
The moon and stars are out tonight
We noticed to our great delight
White diamonds of the midnight sky
We lie enchanted by their light
We lay in bed, for we must sleep
But we pray for the next night to be.

Goldberry

She dances over the lilies
With feathery light steps
As she runs to greet me
With her arms out stretched
She’s a vision of new spring
With rays of sunlight in her hair
But with eyes as blue as springs

But it was not her beauty
That smote my heart
But her song that touched my soul
That beckoned me to rest
To sleep and fear no nightly noise
For in her home, none are oppressed

She sings to the air, the river’s song
As she dances in the rain
Bringing life to earth once again.
Her song stirs the hearts of men
As she calls upon the rain
Beckoning in a voice they know
Welcoming them to her home.

Arwen

(I wrote 'Eowyn' as a kind of companion piece to this one. )

I saw her standing there
Clothed in white raiment
Her hair, an ebony river
Her eyes as sapphires
But more than this
I saw her heart
Shrouded in purity
Crowned with honor
Devotion and love
Welling from her depths

A Queen before the crown
A star from heaven
I thought her to be
Her heart unmarred
By the Shadow
And her grace undimmed

A silent gazer of all that passes
A gentle hand to all who hurt
The Queen of a nation
Her husband’s crown and glory
Her children’s rock and shield
Lady of faith
Daughter of Lords
Woman of quiet strength
So it was, I beheld Arwen
Queen of Gondor

Undomiel, Elessar

Where is the elwen?
Where has our star gone?

The taramire has gone away
She to be the queen of her foreign kin

Who has taken our undomiel’s heart?
Who has taken the light of the night away?

Her heart foretold that he would come
The son of mortal men who would steal her heart away

Who is this man who has taken our starlight?
Is he mighty and lordly for our daughter of the night?

He is the king long looked for
The mightiest of men of old

Is he not so young in the ladyship’s eyes?
Will she not laugh at his youth?

Wisdom rests upon his brow
His age is not counted by the years

The Undomiel and the Elessar
Were doomed to meet one fateful day
Their hearts were entwined together, forever
To the Eldar’s dismay
